The port of Antwerp is one of the largest in Europe. The city is known as the center for the diamond industry. In the 16th century, Antwerp was the heart of Europe. No less than 40% of the world economy passed over the nearby river “Schelde” at that time. The heart of the city consists of splendid architecture in the typical flemish gothic style.
